A Captain’s Pocket Dump

serve

While the Gear Journal is mostly focused on the regular Joe and his EDC needs, we thought it might be interesting to hear from a professional. Rick is a captain on a New York police force. He’s survived an off-duty shoot out with a bad guy as well as 9-11. He’s been there, done that, and is prepared for it all. Lets take a look at his pocket dump, shall we?

The Smokejumper Belt

smokejumper

Looking for a seriously heavy duty work belt? I wasn’t, but I stumbled upon a belt that Chute43 was offering and just dug the way it looked. I dropped him a line, sent him some cash via paypal, and received my “Smokejumper” belt just a few days later.

Tactical Laser

laser

This, my friends, is the Spyder II GX laser from WickedLasers.com. The Spyder II is a military grade laser featuring an aerospace aluminum body and the first every hand-held thermoelectric cooling system. It shoots a laser that is visible for hundreds of miles and is intense enough to light a match from more than a few feet away. Frankly, I don’t know why you would include such hardware in your every day carry pack, but if ya do – BE CAREFUL as this thing can blind.

Every Day CAR carry

This one was originally posted on The Jalopy Journal and isn’t entirely on-topic, but I thought you guys might find it interesting none the less… A modern tool kit housed in vintage appointments and saved for road side occasions.

The Boker SUBCOM

boker

Here’s a quick little video review on the ever-popular Boker SUBCOM knife. These little buggers are available in a number of different colors, finishes, and blade styles and are priced at under $40 in most cases. I don’t know the folks over at knivesplus.com at all, but you certainly can’t argue with their prices… It might be worth giving them a shot.

In any case, enjoy the review:

Plastic Bins Wire Shelving

We are absolute gear junkies hear at the journal... And when we find things that we can't live with out, we will make sure you know about them. Here's just a few of our favorite gadgets:

  • Boker Sucbcom

The best thing about these little knives is their size – thin and blunt. They don’t look like much, but these sharps couldn’t be any more handy. Dirt cheap too… Check em’ out.

  • Booq Python

I love a good tactical bag, but some times you have to be a little more subtle. Our favorite civilian? The Booq Python. Read more about this beast here.

  • Leatherman Micra

We’ve had a ton of multi-tools and can confidently say that the Micra is the best of the bunch in the “mini” category. Handy tools and a great base for a full custom key chain piece. Details here.

  • Marathon TSAR

Want a watch that will take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’? You can’t beat a Marathon TSAR. Built like a tank and priced decently. Check it out.
