So I got a genuine reader’s question over the weekend:

Ryan, I have $1000 to spend on a turntable and no time for research or messing with vintage stuff. What would you suggest?

Frankly, I prefer vintage stuff… and I enjoy the time it takes to find the right one and sort it out once I have it. That being said, if I were going to spend $1000 on a no-nonsense turntable that was ready to go, I’d get a Pro-Ject RPM3. It’s belt driven, simple in design, and comes with a Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge. Pretty hard to beat for the money.

Great looking mechanical keyboards… And while I know mechanical keyboards are kind of a “hipster” thing, don’t know em’ until you’ve tried one. The right mechanical keyboard is a joy to use…

His videos are typically pretty fun to watch and reasonably educational as well. I won’t get this camera, but that doesn’t stop my from wanting it.

I’m a vintage Leica guy… I have an M3, M6, and M7. I’ve also owned both an M8 and an M9 – digital variations of the Leica M camera that I loved. However, I finally got out of modern Leica cameras when I decided I wasn’t a good enough photographer to spend that kind of money on a camera. I still feel that way… I also feel like that, in many ways, Leica is more of a fashion brand than a serious photography brand. Even so, I would really love to own this new camera.
