There are people in this world that spend thousands of dollars on pen collections. It’s an interesting and thoughtful underworld as textured as the time-piece market and even the traditional hot rod movement. I’m not at all one of these folks, but I admire them and their collections from afar.

Lately, a new pen design has been hitting the market with fearless abandon. Everyone seems to want one, but not many are available. And if you happen to find one, expect to pay well over $500… For a pen… Even so, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a cooler writing utensil.

It’s the Japanese made Hidetoshi Bolt-Action Pen. Brilliant.

Wanna take some video… on the sly… at night? Here’s the hot ticket. The Nightvision Flashlight Camcorder ($150) sports an eight LED array and hides a two-megapixel still/VGA video camera in its face. A five hour Lithium Ion battery runs the joint while your video is recorded on a microSD card tucked inside the chassis.

This is bitchin. In 1953, the Central Intelligence Agency contracted illusionist John Mulholland to create a secret dossier of stealth and misdirection to be used by operatives in the field. All copies of the document were believed to have been destroyed in 1973, but a single copy remained… Intelligence historian H. Keith Melton and retired CIA officer Robert Wallace somehow got their mitts on the surviving copy and have reproduced it. You can buy it for about $15. RAD.

Most of you are probably well aware that I love old shit – cars, watches, art, furniture, etc… I love it all. Of course, this site focuses on the latest and greatest gear available out in the world. My love of the vintage doesn’t often mix with my appreciation for those gadgets. This is one of those rare occasions. A buddy of mine recently sent me a link to Hickorees. Essentially, Hickorees caries a bunch of really handy stuff that just happens to be vintage. It’s glorious.

Here’s a little something I posted on The Garage Journal today, but thought was appropriate for you guys as well: This is pretty brilliant actually. Some German got the bright idea to add a pocket caliper to a really nice pen. The result is something you can carry with you every day. Need some measurements? Easy, break out the calipers on this pen, measure away, and then use the pen to record your findings. I love stuff like this. It runs $27, but who’s counting?

This is ridiculous… The little gun is about 5.5 cm long and fires a 2.34mm caliber cartridge – specially made of course. It’s illegal for import into the states, but would run about $6000 if you could smuggle one in through Canada. I have no idea what in the hell you would use it for.
