Default get hosed!!! (garden hose)

There are certain products that I usually don't think much about....garden hoses are one of them. Recently I had some free time so I thought I'd waste it (what else) with a stroll through Home Depot. Tools, plumbing, Lumber, electrical, flooring, and then last but not least...Lawn & Garden......ahhh the soothing sounds of the lawn & Garden department shade...and just the right amount of mist. Now, it's a rare occasion that I leave any home improvement store empty handed so my mind starts brainstorming...do I need anymore shrubs? no, trees? no, shovels? no.....nothing? ahhh GARDEN HOSE!!! nothing wrong with buying another garden hose right? that green kink-whore of a hose I had at home was definitely ready for replacement. "No brainer buy" I thought and snatched up the closest "green machine" on the shelf and was ready to split...easy breezy!!! I feel good...I feel great...I feel like a million bucks and then it hit me....son of a bitch....you know the feeling when you're in a public place and you can feel a set of eyes on you. About 5ft away tucked under the shelf was a stack of what looked to be a garden hose on steriods. I approached it slowly, with caution, and started to look it over "goodyear industrial" it said on the label..."motherfucker" I thought..."they're pulling me in". But naturally I glanced at the price...$45!!! thank god!!....no way in hell!!! right? don't read any further just walk out with the $10 shit-hose and be done with it. wait there's more on the label "Premium heavy duty reinforced PVC water hose"....all I could hear was that "heavenly-choir" sound as I read that sentence. There's no way the piece of shit hose I had in my hand could live up to THAT!!!....but $45!!! dilemma? shouldn't be...but there I was...contemplating...my grandpa would have kicked my ass knowing that I was about to pay that much for a garden hose. But then I thought...no kinks....lifetime warranty!!! SOOOLD!!! I hauled ass home and hooked it up....I AM SPARTACUS!!! (water shooting out of the nozzle).....cadillac water hose....I think not...this "PVC reinforced" hose kinks up as much if not MORE and EASIER than the $10 noodle...go figure...well at least it's got a lifetime warranty and I have some free time...off to home depot I go to swap it for a new one....I heard they have a crazy battery-powered plunger...(ready the heavenly choir)

when i bought my present house, 15 years ago, i bought new hoses for both the front and back yard. like you i was sucked in by a premium, lifetime guarantee. well i have used that guarantee 4 times for the front and three times for the back. i have high water pressure and the heat here in AZ puts a beating to the hoses. i have kept the hose packaging, in my warranty file, so each time i took it in it was replaced no questions asked. among the best 30 or so bucks i have spent

later jim

My brother spung for a $100, 100 foot, black, goodyear hose once, maybe when it was on sale. He gave it to me when he grew tired of tripping over it. He only needed about 25 feet.
I have used that hose for nearly ten years now. The only issue was my wife tagging it with the weedeater once. I am sure it has frozen, been run over, had pressure left on it for weeks at a time, and it has never failed. It always rolls up easily and looks like new.

Yep, I'd pay $100 bucks for another one if it came up.

I could also recomennd The Water Flexeel hose, it is lighter weight and more flexible and I believe just as durable. It's a lot nicer to coil and stow if you have to move your hoses often, it also works very well on hose reels.

i made that mistake a couple of years ago, except the hose was black.

so not only does it kink like a slinky, it gets black junk all over my hands while trying to straighten it out

I bought some of the higher dollar hoses from Lowes right after I bought my house last year only because they were advertised as no kink style so that the water would still flow even if twisted or kinked......

No such luck. I won't say they kink any more or less than a cheaper hose but they do still kink and will not allow water to pass when they do. I don't even remember the name of the hoses, they are black with yellow stripe on them. So far they have held up well to the Florida Sun. My only problem was that one of my metal(aluminum) nozzles I had attached to one became electrolytically sealed to the brass end of the hose. I ended up having to cut the end of the hose and repair it, only this time I put anti-seize on the threads so it wouldn't happen again.
