Bags & Pouches

Wotancraft City Explorer 006

Another month and another camera bag… This one was hand made in Japan by a company mostly known for some pretty killer watch straps – Wotancraft. We’ve obviously reviewed a lot of camera bags on Gearjournal.com and to be frank, this is the best made bag we’ve ever had our hands on. It is that good. Enjoy the review:

The Camera Bag

I review a lot of general purpose and camera bags here on Gear Journal. As a result, I’m always thinking about what makes the “perfect” bag. Try as might, I’ve never really been able to find one. The closest I’ve come across for my needs is the Billingham Hadley Pro line of bags. I love their nice and compact size. I love the hand made build quality. I love their simple functionality… But they look like purses… and when you got buddies like mine, you don’t even think about rolling with anything that might be mistaken for a purse. Screw that.

The Think Tank Retrospective 20

I love photography. I’m not all that great at it, but I love it. What I don’t dig on is carrying around a camera. For years, I lugged around a Nikon DSLR plus lenses for work and grew to loathe the logistics of taking pictures. And then, compact cameras started to get really capable. Before I knew it, I had gotten rid of all my DSLR cameras and moved into mirrorless cameras like the Leica M8 and then the new Fuji X-Pro 1. Both are compact and both take incredible images. In fact, I doubt I’ll ever own an SLR again. I’ve, quite literally, seen the light.

Filson… Again…

I can’t help it. I love Filson… American Made and what not… This guy took a vintage “original briefcase” and made a camera bag out of it. Brilliant.

If you are in the market for a camera bag, hold your horses. We’ve got lots of camera bag reviews in the works.

TrekPak

This is pretty brilliant… You know those velcro camera bag inserts that drive you friggin’ crazy? These folks having been thinking about that issue a lot and came up with what looks like a pretty damned ingenious alternative.

Check it out here.
